The spin throw, also called a curve or simply spin, is one way of throwing the disc in Windjammers. It opposes normal shots.
The particularity of an effect throw is that instead of going straight to the goal, the frisbee will make a curve according to the directions that the player will have entered before the throw.
How to achieve an effect[]
To perform an effect shot, you must enter at least two consecutive directions before pressing A to throw the Frisbee. Note that if the player uses more than two directions to achieve an effect (for example ↓↘→ or even ←↙↓↘→), the game will only use the last two directions (↘→) to create the effect.
The curve performed varies according to two parameters.
The directions entered before the shot: the last direction entered will define the starting point of the throw, and the penultimate direction made will determine in which direction the curve will take place. For example, if player 1 successively enters the directions ↗ and → then throws the frisbee, the frisbee will be thrown forward because the right corresponds to the front, then will gradually go down because the player performed a downward manipulation with the directions (up-right then right). The character's "Curve power" stat: the higher it is, the more pronounced the curve performed by the character will be. A sound effect and a special animation indicate the success of an effect throw.
Note: Effects that end in the forward direction can also be performed ending in the reverse direction. Thus, the effect mentioned above (↗→) can also be performed with the ↖← directions. This is also applicable to super spins.
Notes[]
In this wiki, the arrows ←↙↓↘→↗↑↖ are used to indicate the manipulation to be performed before pressing A in order to perform a specific effect. Note that this wiki only gives the manipulations to be performed on the left side (player 1). To obtain the manipulation to be performed for player 2, the manipulation must be reversed horizontally. Thus, the upward wide-angle manipulation of Mita ←↖ becomes →↗ on the right side.
Strategy[]
It is important to know all the effects of your character on all the different terrains: the presence of bumpers and the variation in the size of the terrains changes the way you have to play your character. As explained in the home page, wider angle spins are better suited to wide pitches because they cover more of the pitch, forcing the opponent to follow the disc a greater distance. Tighter spin allows you to reach the corners of small pitches without necessarily causing a bounce.
For the same effect, we can observe the effectiveness of the different characters on the different terrains. Here, the wide angle of the lightweights on Beach against that of Costa on Lawn, a larger field.
However, the effect shot is slower to come out than the normal shot: so don't neglect the basic shots in order to avoid being too predictable. An abuse of spin shots gives the opponent more time to read the trajectory and toss to take advantage in the rally.
